Peter Boulton

Network Director Highways, Transport for Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

Peter is Network Director Highways for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and has spent the majority of his career in public transport leading and managing all aspects of project and programme lifecycles across all modes from inception to development, design, delivery, commissioning and operations.

He is accountable for the strategic oversight of the Greater Manchester’s highway network, urban traffic control, intelligent transport systems, road safety, TfGM’s multi-modal 24/7 Operational Control Centre, safety and security, organisational resilience and operational data and analytics.

He has recently led the development of the approach and subsequent adoption of Vision Zero for Greater Manchester with the ambition for zero fatalities and life changing injuries (FLCI) on our roads by 2040, whilst increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.  With increasing volume of traffic on GM roads and limited opportunity for expansion of the road network, Peter’s focus is on how technology, data and AI can allow us to actively manage traffic in real time, understand and predict demand, and prioritise road space in line with our wider objectives for public transport, safety and growth.
